My most recently room mom duty was to decorate my son’s kindergarten classroom door to look like a barn. I searched Pinterest, but there’s a serious lack of farm classroom decor on there. I’m in the middle of packing for Social Media on the Sand and checking things off my (mile long) to do list before I leave out of the country, so my co-room mom and I had approximately 30 minutes to put together a barn door. I thought the door turned out super cute and it was so easy to do that I thought I’d blog my steps for future room moms or teachers. My son’s teacher will be starting a farm unit and I hope this door inspires learning! I may just have to recreate my cardboard box barn or farm animal finger puppets when I get back from Jamaica!

MATERIALS

red butcher paper
Scotch® Adhesive Dots
scissors
stapler
Scotch® Duct Tape Pearl White
12 x 12 black scrapbook paper
shredded floral wood moss
hot glue gun
3 small wooden fence pieces
faux sunflowers
straw wreath
3 wooden farm animals
red ribbon
3 Command™ Clear Small Hooks
farm bunting

TUTORIAL

Step 1: Wrap the bottom half of the door with red butcher paper. Frame the paper on the door with Scotch® Duct Tape Pearl White and create an “X”, as shown in the photo.

Step 2: Cut the stems off of the faux sunflowers and hot glue to the small wooden fence pieces (found in most craft supply stores). Hot glue the wooden fence pieces to the bottom of the red butcher paper, as shown in the photo.

Step 3: To create the top of the barn, fold the corners of a piece of butcher paper (slightly longer than the door) to look like the photo. You can use Scotch® Adhesive Dots to secure the folds to the back of the paper. Staple (if allowed) to the wall, above the door.

Step 4: Attach a 12 x 12 piece of black scrapbook paper to the center of the butcher paper in step 3. Frame using Scotch® Duct Tape Pearl White. Hot glue floral straw to the bottom half of the black paper, as shown in the photo.

Step 5: Hot glue 3 wooden farm animals to a straw wreath and tie a piece of red ribbon to the wreath for hanging purposes. Hang on the door using a Command™ Clear Small Hook.

Step 6: Add 2 Command™ Clear Small Hooks to the top corners of the door and hang the pre-made farm bunting. If you’d like to make your own bunting, you could cut cow print scrapbook paper into triangles and attach them to a piece of string.
